How does the Body Warmth stat work in Permafrost?
Body Warmth represents your thermal resistance against the sub-zero wasteland. If ambient outdoor temperatures fall below your clothing's thermal insulation, your warmth meter begins draining. Once it drops to zero, your character suffers from Hypothermia and rapidly loses health (~3 HP/s) until you find indoor shelter, stand near a campfire, or activate a Makeshift Heater.
Can you farm crops in Permafrost Early Access?
No. The October 2026 Early Access release does not feature agricultural farming. Food must be acquired through hunting wildlife (deer, rabbits, birds) with a bow or spear, or scavenging non-perishable canned food in industrial and town ruins.
How do you tame and recruit the dog companion?
Locate the Bone Cave northeast of the starting valley during the 'Dog Days' quest. You must bring exactly 1x Makeshift Bandage (to heal its bleeding leg) and 1x Raw Meat (to feed and bond with it). Once befriended, it provides 30m threat detection growls, scent tracking, and 8 extra backpack slots via the Dog Saddle Bag.
How do you get your first firearm in Permafrost?
The most reliable method is advancing the main storyline from House Camp south to the Solar Farm. Accept the 'Parking Zoo' quest from the radio terminal, which immediately unlocks the Weapon Bench schematic. You can then craft the IZG 9mm Pistol and 9x19mm ammunition.
